You may have often heard of people holding a Cisco certification or a Microsoft certification and wondered what that means? Any Professional certification is a certification or qualification that a person earns to perform a certain job.

Such Certifications are usually received from Professional Institutions and are usually required to be renewed from time to time. The renewal process of a person’s certification includes the proof of continued learning, which is otherwise known as Continuing Education or Continuing Education Units. An important point to be noted here is that these certifications are not issued by any government but from a professional association.

For example, a computer training course you attended requires a certificate at the completion of it and this is received from that Computer Center and not the government. Nowadays online certifications are in and make the process easy for people. Sometimes an ability or knowledge is to be proved by law before being given permission to perform a particular task, this process is called licensure. Some Certification programs take into consideration various other factors rather than just the marks or performance in an examination. As if otherwise the certification process might become a contentious issue. For instance a Criminal record while applying for certification is a solid ground for rejection of certification.
